Your DOWNdog Monday Morning POST
Welcome to the DOWNdog Yoga 30-Day Sun Salutation Challenge! I hope you will want to participate and find it both challenging and FUN!
….
I started doing Sun Salutations regularly during the summer. At first, it was a few times a week. In September I started doing them more and more and they soon became a part of my daily practice. I have to say in all honesty, I am now hooked.
The question is: How do I get you to go over to your mat every day for 30 days and do sun salutations? Well I don’t think there is an easy answer to this question. But, I will try to get you off to a good start for *Week One.
A few years back when talking to my son about a friend of mine who was having a hard time going back to her daily meditation routine, he gave me some good advice. “Tell her to just start. Start small. Five minutes a day. “
I decided to use this advice and so we will start off slow. One sun salutation for 7 days. Every day. If you do one a day or more, you will be off to a great start! Doing them at the same time will help you develop the habit.
They say it takes 30 consecutive days to develop a new habit and it is for this reason that I have decided to make it a 30-day challenge.
Our habits to some degree dictate the direction of our life. We can chose to develop new and healthier habits and give our life a better direction at any time. Starting slowly, one day at a time is the key.
I believe beyond any doubt, that if you develop the habit of doing sun salutations, they will bring more energy, focus, and calm into your daily life. They will help you become more flexible and stronger, both mentally and physically. They will do just what they say: bring the beautiful energy of the sun into your life. Who knows? They might just take your life in a new direction.
Please note: To make it a little bit more fun and motivating, I would like to offer everyone who does 21 days or more of Sun Salutations during the 30-day challenge, a chance to win a gift certficate for the upcoming winter session at DOWNdog Yoga!
Namaste!
