Just trying to get by…

Your SUNNY SUNDAY DOWNdog Post!

A touch of poetry for you this morning!😉

“Just trying to get by”
Every day he comes and sits on the sidewalk
no matter the weather
He comes to entertain those who pass by
in the hopes of
making enough money to get by
Just trying to get by

For those of you who walk by or frequent Bridgehead on Beechwood, you will undoubtedly have noticed the man in his mid-forties out front, strumming away at his guitar.

Yesterday, I stopped to buy a pound of Expresso. I then went over to give him a donation. He began to say something to me as I walked away. I didn’t hear what he said and so went back and asked if he could repeat. “I am going to pray for you,” he said. It wasn’t only what he said, but how he said it. He looked at me with such kindness. There was a special connection.

Yoga philosophy underlines the importance of recognizing and appreciating the noble qualities in others. In that instant, I saw not only his kindness but his sincerity, generosity, patience and courage.

As I write this morning’s post, I am reminded of a quotation from Tennessee Williams’ play, A Streetcar Named Desire. “The kindness of strangers makes the world go round.” I am grateful for his kindness. The next time I see him, I will let him know.

An awesome practice awaits you at DOWNdog this week! Week 8! Yoga to celebrate kindness!
